Crypto Heatmap

The whole crypto market in one picture. Bigger tiles are bigger coins; green tiles are up and red tiles are down. The stronger the colour, the bigger the move.

How to read a crypto heatmap

A heatmap (or treemap) packs every coin into one rectangle. The area of each tile matches the coin's market cap, so Bitcoin and Ethereum dominate the picture and small caps share the leftovers. The colour shows the price change over the period you pick: deep green for a strong rise, grey for flat, deep red for a strong fall. Colours max out at about ±8%, so a sea of light colours means a quiet market.

Use it to answer quick questions: is the whole market moving together (risk-on or risk-off), or are only a few sectors rallying? Switch to Volume sizing to see where the trading activity actually is, which can differ a lot from market cap on news days. Stablecoins are hidden by default because they barely move and would only add grey space.

Frequently asked questions

What does the size of each tile mean?

By default the tile area is proportional to the coin's market capitalisation. You can switch to 24-hour trading volume instead.

How often is the heatmap updated?

It uses our CoinGecko market snapshot, which refreshes about every 15 minutes. For tick-by-tick prices open the coin page in our live markets app.

Why are stablecoins hidden?

Coins like USDT and USDC are pegged to the dollar, so they show almost no change and take up large grey tiles. Tick the box to include them.
