Bitcoin Market Cycle Indicators

Four classic long-term gauges that have flagged overheated Bitcoin markets in past cycles, recalculated from daily closing prices every time you open the page.

Log scale. Daily close (main line), 111-day average (gold), 2× 350-day average (blue), 200-week average (purple). When gold crosses above blue, the Pi Cycle Top triggers.

What each indicator measures

  • Pi Cycle Top: compares the 111-day moving average with twice the 350-day average. In the past their crossing came close to major cycle peaks.
  • Mayer multiple: price divided by the 200-day average. Readings above about 2.4 have historically meant an overheated market; below 1 means price is under its long-term trend.
  • 2-year MA multiplier: price against the 730-day average and five times that average. Above 5× was a historic sell zone, below 1× a historic accumulation zone.
  • 200-week moving average: roughly a four-year average that acted as a floor in previous bear markets.

These tools describe past cycles; markets change and an indicator that worked before can fail. Use them as context alongside moving average signals and sound risk management, never as a timing guarantee.

Frequently asked questions

Has the Pi Cycle Top indicator worked before?

It came within days of the 2017 and April 2021 peaks, but it did not trigger at the November 2021 high. Past behaviour is no guarantee of future signals.

Why calculate from Binance data?

Binance's BTC/USDT daily candles are free, public and go back to August 2017, enough for the 200-week average. Older cycles are not included in our calculation.
