Crypto Profit & Loss Calculator

Work out the real profit or loss on a crypto trade after buy and sell fees, plus the price you need to break even.

Calculating…

The default numbers are a generic example, not a market quote. Amounts are in whatever currency you use for the prices.

How the crypto profit calculator works

Knowing whether a trade made money sounds simple, but fees on both sides, and the habit of quoting gains on the coin price alone, often make the real result smaller than it looks. This calculator takes the amount you spent, your buy and sell prices and the percentage fee charged on each side, and shows the net profit or loss after fees, the percentage return on what you actually paid, and the break-even price.

Formulas used

  • Coins bought = investment ÷ buy price
  • Buy fee = investment × buy fee %; total cost = investment + buy fee
  • Sale value = coins × sell price; sell fee = sale value × sell fee %
  • Net profit = sale value − sell fee − total cost
  • Return % = net profit ÷ total cost × 100
  • Break-even sell price = buy price × (1 + buy fee %) ÷ (1 − sell fee %)

Worked example with the default inputs: 1,000 at a price of 50,000 buys 0.02 coins and costs 1 in fees, so the total cost is 1,001. Selling 0.02 coins at 60,000 gives 1,200, minus a 1.20 fee, leaving 1,198.80. The net profit is 197.80, a return of about 19.76% rather than the 20% the price change alone suggests, and the break-even price is about 50,100.

Assumptions and limits

  • Fees are charged as a percentage of the trade value on each side, the way most exchanges charge spot trading fees. Fixed fees, network (withdrawal) fees and the spread between buy and sell prices are not included unless you add them to the fee percentage.
  • The buy fee is paid on top of the investment. If your exchange deducts the fee from the coins you receive instead, the result is almost identical for small fee rates.
  • Taxes are not included. Many countries tax crypto gains, and the rules vary widely, so check the rules where you live.
  • The optional live price comes from our CoinGecko snapshot, refreshed about every 15 minutes, and can differ from the price on your exchange.

For leveraged positions use the liquidation price calculator and the funding rate calculator; if you bought in several steps, the DCA calculator works out your average entry. Before sizing any trade, read our risk management basics and crypto market basics.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate crypto profit after fees?

Divide the amount invested by the buy price to get the number of coins, multiply by the sell price, then subtract the sell fee and the total cost including the buy fee. The calculator shows each step.

What is the break-even price?

It is the sell price at which the net proceeds after the sell fee exactly equal what you paid including the buy fee: buy price × (1 + buy fee) ÷ (1 − sell fee).

Does the calculator include taxes?

No. Tax on crypto gains depends on your country and situation. Use the net profit as a starting point and check local rules.
