About this unit
The tola is a traditional South Asian unit of weight still used for gold in India, Pakistan, Nepal and Bangladesh and across the Gulf, where many South Asian jewellers and buyers trade. Its modern standard weight is 11.6638 grams, which is exactly 3/8 of a troy ounce, so the price per tola equals the ounce price × 0.375. The popular "ten-tola" (TT) bar weighs about 116.6 grams, or 3.75 troy ounces.
In India gold is also commonly quoted per 10 grams, a little less than one tola. Both figures are in the tables on the gold price in INR and gold price in AED pages.
