24K gold contains 99.9% or more pure gold (hallmark 999 / 999.9). Pure gold is soft and bright yellow. It is the standard for investment bars and many bullion coins, and is widely sold as plain jewellery in China, the Middle East and South Asia, where buyers value the high metal content.

Is 24K gold really 100% pure?
In practice 24K means at least 99.9% gold (hallmark 999), and investment bars are often 99.99% (999.9). The tiny remainder is trace impurities.
Why is 24K gold rarely used for rings?
Pure gold is very soft, so it scratches and bends easily. Rings and chains that get daily wear are usually made in 22K, 18K or lower karats, which add harder metals such as copper and silver.
Is this the price a jeweller will charge me?
No. This is the spot value of the metal itself. Jewellery and coins are sold with a premium over spot that covers manufacturing, design, dealer margin and, in many countries, sales tax or VAT. When you sell, buyers usually pay less than spot.
