About 18K gold
18K gold contains 75% pure gold (hallmark 750). 18K is the most common fine-jewellery standard in Europe and is widely used for watches and gem-set pieces because it holds stones securely. It can be yellow, white or rose depending on the other 25%: silver and copper for yellow and rose, palladium or nickel for white gold, which is usually rhodium-plated.

What does the 750 hallmark mean?
750 means 750 parts gold per 1,000, i.e. 75% gold, which is 18 karat.
Is white gold real gold?
Yes. 18K white gold still contains 75% gold; it is alloyed with whiter metals and normally plated with rhodium for a bright finish. Its gold value is the same as yellow 18K of the same weight.
Is this the price a jeweller will charge me?
No. This is the spot value of the metal itself. Jewellery and coins are sold with a premium over spot that covers manufacturing, design, dealer margin and, in many countries, sales tax or VAT. When you sell, buyers usually pay less than spot.
