Crude Oil Price Forecast 2026–2027

Brent and WTI: what is driving prices, clearly labelled scenarios, and official and bank forecasts with their dates.

Live Brent (TVC:UKOIL) and WTI (TVC:USOIL) reference prices via TradingView; may be delayed.

Key drivers to watch

  • Middle East supply and shipping. The 2026 conflict disrupted Gulf production and flows through the Strait of Hormuz. The EIA (6 Oct 2026) estimated shut-in crude production at 4.8 million b/d in September, down from a 10.9 million b/d peak in May.
  • Inventories. Global stocks have been drawn down; the EIA estimated draws of 1.9 million b/d in 3Q 2026. Low inventories make prices jumpy.
  • Demand destruction and recovery. High prices cut consumption; analysts in the Reuters poll (30 Oct 2026) saw 2026 demand falling by 2.5 million b/d and growing by about 2.2 million b/d in 2027.
  • OPEC+ policy and how much spare capacity returns once flows normalise.
  • Refined products. Tight diesel markets have added upward pressure on crude, according to the EIA.
  • Macro. Interest rates, the dollar and global growth.

Scenarios: bull, base and bear

Bull scenario

Renewed attacks or a longer disruption keep Gulf flows constrained while inventories stay depleted; risk premiums and shipping costs remain high.

Base scenario

Workarounds and repaired infrastructure gradually restore Middle East output, inventories rebuild through 2027 and prices drift lower. This is broadly the path described by the EIA and Goldman Sachs.

Bear scenario

A durable ceasefire releases supply faster than expected while demand stays weak, pushing the market into a clear surplus.

Scenarios describe conditions in words; they are not price targets. VoxTradePro does not publish its own price targets.

Reading the numbers

The EIA is a US government statistical agency and publishes its outlook monthly, so its numbers are the easiest to track over time. Its October forecast was finalised on 1 October 2026 and does not reflect later events. Our contango vs backwardation guide explains why futures for later months currently trade below prompt prices.

Frequently asked questions

What is the oil price forecast for 2027?

As of the dates in the table, the US EIA expects Brent to average $84/b in 2027 (6 Oct 2026) and Goldman Sachs $80/b (reported 19 Oct 2026). Forecasts depend heavily on how quickly Middle East supply recovers.

What is the difference between Brent and WTI?

Brent is the main international benchmark, based on North Sea crude; WTI is the US benchmark delivered at Cushing, Oklahoma. WTI usually trades a few dollars below Brent.

Does VoxTradePro predict prices?

No. We explain what drives each market, describe clearly labelled scenarios and summarise forecasts that banks, agencies and analyst polls have published, with dates and links. We do not publish our own price targets.
