US spot bitcoin ETFs posted about $399 million in Monday outflows led by BlackRock’s IBIT, while BTC held near $77,000 into the midterms

US bitcoin ETFs lost about $399 million on Monday as IBIT led redemptions. We cover the flows, Strategy’s latest buy and what to watch.

US spot Bitcoin ETFs opened November still in redemption mode. On Monday 2 November, the group recorded about $398.6 million in net outflows, according to Farside Investors' daily table, with Bitcoin.com News putting the same session at $398.62 million. BlackRock's IBIT alone saw about $405.3 million leave—partly offset by a $6.7 million inflow into Fidelity's FBTC—leaving a second straight outflow day after Friday's much larger exit.

Spot bitcoin held a recovery tone into Wednesday's Asian hours: CoinMarketCap data cited by Aju Press put BTC near $77,779 around 08:00 on 4 November, after CoinDesk had flagged a dip toward about $76,300 in the European morning on 3 November. Live prices are on our Bitcoin market page.

What the Monday flow numbers show

Farside's fund-level print for 2 November is clear: IBIT −405.3, FBTC +6.7, and zeros across most other listed products, for a −398.6 total (figures in millions of US dollars). Bitcoin.com News added that ETF trading value fell to about $1.99 billion from Friday's $6.35 billion, while combined net assets closed near $98.12 billion. Selling continued, but with far less urgency than the prior session's rush for the exits.

CoinDesk, also citing Farside, rounded Monday's group outflow to about $399 million and noted IBIT's drop was its largest daily redemption since June. That concentration matters because IBIT has often been the swing factor when institutional demand returns; a multi-day IBIT-led drain removes a bid that other funds have not fully replaced.

Friday 30 October still frames the two-day picture. Farside shows a −643.2 million total that day; Bitcoin.com News and earlier market reports put Friday near $643.3 million, so Monday plus Friday tops $1.04 billion over two sessions. Analysts quoted by The Block after Friday argued that even a $643 million day was under 1% of spot bitcoin ETF assets near $98.14 billion—a sentiment shock more than a structural exit—but a second heavy day keeps that question open.

Corporate buying offered a counterweight

Not every large holder was selling. The Block reported that Strategy (formerly MicroStrategy) bought another 811 BTC for about $65.5 million between 26 October and 1 November, paying an average of about $80,846 per coin. That lifted holdings to 849,327 BTC, acquired for roughly $64.1 billion at an average of about $75,451. The purchase was funded with common-stock sales of about $164 million in the week, The Block said, while the company also repurchased preferred shares and paid preferred dividends from cash.

That does not cancel ETF redemptions dollar-for-dollar, but it shows corporate treasury demand continuing even while fund flows turned negative. For longer-cycle context on supply, see bitcoin halvings explained and bitcoin dominance.

Midterms, jobs data and market caution

US midterm voting on 3 November added a second layer of risk appetite caution on top of flows. CoinDesk's 3 November wrap also flagged derivatives churn—futures volume up with open interest soft—as consistent with trading around an event rather than building fresh leverage. Ether moved with the tape; see the Ethereum page for the second-largest coin's context, remembering that ether ETF demand has been weaker than bitcoin's for weeks.

The next hard macro print for rates-sensitive assets is the US October employment report on Friday 6 November (08:30 ET / 21:30 Macau time). Check the economic calendar for the full slate.

What to watch

  • Daily US spot Bitcoin ETF flows (Farside / issuer data): whether IBIT returns to creations or extends redemptions.
  • Midterm outcome headlines: fiscal and regulatory expectations for the next two years.
  • Jobs report, 6 November: the main near-term input for December rate odds.
  • Corporate and exchange flow contrast: Strategy-style buys versus fund and venue outflows.
